Brothers and sisters in Christ, we find ourselves witnessing the tragic consequences of a society that drifts further from the Lord's commandments each day. This news of a fatal migrant gang stabbing in Lower Manhattan, which claimed the life of a young teenager and injured another, is a stark reminder that sin is at the doorstep of our communities (Genesis 4:7). It's clear as daylight that the reckless immigration policies promoted by the Biden-Harris administration have opened the floodgates to a wave of crime and violence. These policies are not only a betrayal of American citizens but also of those migrants who come here seeking a better life, only to be ensnared by the tangles of lawlessness and gangs, such as the predatory "Tren de Aragua" (Ephesians 5:11). What's more distressing is seeing Democratic politicians quick to label any conflict under the deceptive umbrellas of racism and xenophobia, as seen in Congressman Dan Goldman's premature condemnation, which only inflames tensions and distracts from the root of the problem: sin and the need for a return to law and order. These knee-jerk responses, devoid of careful investigation or truth-seeking, are nothing more than empty virtue signaling (Matthew 7:5). We must commend the New York Police Department for diligently working to bring the perpetrators to justice, but let's not forget the bigger picture: this kind of violence is a result of turning away from God's guidance (Isaiah 59:8). The city’s use of hotels as migrant shelters and the gangs' invasions of these spaces paint a bleak picture of failed leadership and a disregard for the sanctity of the community and public safety. The only beacon of hope in this murky situation is our former President Trump's vow to crack down on gang activity. Such a promise reflects the biblical precept of leaders being the servants of God, bearing the sword to bring justice to wrongdoers (Romans 13:4). In these trying times, his commitment to law and order is a testament to a leader who stands firm in the face of adversity and sin. We should take solace in knowing that throughout history, when the people of God faced situations that seemed dire, the Lord provided deliverance through His unwavering sovereignty (Daniel 2:21). And the same holds true today. So let us pray for comfort for the families affected by this tragedy, for the healing hand of God to mend the lives torn apart by violence, and for a resurgence of godly prudence in our leaders. Above all, let us earnestly yearn for a restoration of the Lord's ways in our nation—beginning with strong borders, tough on crime leadership, and the moral courage to uphold the sanctity of human life in accordance with divine law (Psalm 33:12). Amen.
